    Quilting Lessons

    30+ quilts, from the first top I pieced as a teen to some of my most recent work. I discuss my family history, as well as influences in my quilting career.
    This show can be customized to fill the time needs of your group. I do not need any special equipment – although I do appreciate an extra pair of hands to help hold quilts as I discuss them.

    Kawandi Quilting

    Discussion of the traditions of Kawandi Quilting in India, along with samples of Indian Kawandi. Then we I’ll talk about my introduction into Kawandi, and what makes it so special to me. I will have about a dozen Kawandi I have made myself. I’ll talk about what Kawandi has done for me, and how I use my experience to give back to the community that has inspired me.

    AccuQuilt

    My journey as an AccuQuilt Go Getter. 20+ quilts. I’ll talk about being both a brand ambassador and a designer for newly released dies. I’ll talk about how I went from believing that I didn’t need an AccuQuilt to rarely making a project without one. I’ll also discuss how having a limited number of shapes doesn’t inhibit my creativity.

    Kawandi-Style Quilting

    Learn about the African/West Indian tradition of Kawandi quilting. I provide a short presentation on the tradition of Kawandi quilting, and provide a list of resources for further exploration. During this class we work on an entirely hand-made mini quilt, working from the outside in to the middle.

    KawandI-Style Quilting By Machine

    Tempted by Kawandi style quilting, but not interested in hand work? Let’s bring this technique into the 21st century with our sewing machines! Blast through a pile of precious scraps and make a baby quilt in a single afternoon. We will use my favorite parts of kawandi making – no piecing, quiltIng from the outside in, but skip the slow stitching.

    Scrappy Rainbows

    Featuring Color Catcher, As seen in McCalls Quilting, Jan 2020.
    Have tons of fun with this beginner friendly scrap buster. I use an AccuQuilt Go! to make mine. I will discuss using an AccuQuilt, and also give standard cutting directions.

  • Improv with Framework

    Explore improv piecing with a little bit of structure. We will work with a gradated bundle of eight fat quarters ranging from light to dark, combined with a color that pops. One of my favorite quilts.

    Quilt Binding By Machine

    Bring your favorite quilted UFO and get it finished! We will prepare and apply binding entirely by machine. I will go over binding preparation, trimming the top, attaching to the front, mitered corners, invisible joins, and attaching to the back.

FAQs

HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE for workshops?

Workshops can be customized for each venue, and can be taught in person or virtually. I charge $100 per hour, and I suggest a 4 hour minimum, 6 hour maximum. I will accept up to 20 students per session. I am willing to travel, but travel expenses must be covered.

HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN ATTEND?

I like to keep classes on the small side, capping at a max of 20 students. If you have a larger group, reach out and we can discuss options.

aRE THEY LIVE OR VIRTUAL?

I am happy to teach or lecture both in-person or via Zoom.

do you have a contract?

Reach out via email, and I’ll get a contract set up for your event.

do we have to pay up front?

I ask for a deposit of $100 to hold a place in my calendar.

what’s your cancellation policy?

I understand things happen and plans change. Reach out to me if we need to cancel. With more than 30 days, as long as I haven’t booked non-refundable travel, I’ll let you off the hook. If travel has been booked, you will need to cover my losses.
