Putting together a sew along 🎃

Once again, I am trying to run a sew along. Don’t worry - I’ve learned from my mistakes. This time, when I hit “launch”, everything will be filmed, uploaded, and ready for release on the promised schedule. I thought I’d tell you a little bit about my process, in case you are curious about what all goes into running a sew along.

The original Pumpkin Play quilt, on a pile of pumpkins.

I’ve had this pattern kicking around in various stages of completion for years. It was originally published in Quilt Pattern Magazine, and online publication, way back in March, 2019. I had always planned on releasing it myself, but every year, I put it off. First because I was busy, then because I wasn’t good enough at generating diagrams. Well, peeps, I’m still too busy, but I AM good enough at diagrams, so this year is it!

First step - set myself a little calendar with completion dates for very small tasks. An amazingly helpful process that I have heard about, but I had not tried yet.

Next, I had to go through all of the pattern variations and figure out what was missing. This step took me 5 years. (15 minutes when I finally opened the files.)

Diagrams of samples and diagrams of construction steps have been created.

Now I’m on to making two more samples. The original is a throw. The expanded pattern will include a throw, table runner and sofa pillow.

I’ve already shot vids on getting started and fabric selections. I’ve even made my first block and cut out pieces. I’m so pleased with how well everything is flowing.

Pattern layout , video editing, and marketing are all on deck.

I think I may run the sew along through my newsletter, with videos hosted on YouTube. How have your favorite sew alongs been run?

Make sure you are signed up for my newsletter if you want to join in. Oh, and if you are short on orange fabrics, check out my two favorite local quilt shops. Both ship!
