Ornaments Too Good to Hide for 11 Months!

It's time for Christmas in July with King of Christmas! This year I opted for some fancy ornaments - I love the offerings King of Christmas has, and I wanted to try some other stuff. (The tree was so awesome last year!) We just moved into an apartment, and my tree is in storage. So, I'm going to get creative with my ornaments to show them off. They are so pretty - these ornaments are too good to hide for 11 months of the year.

The ornament set I received is called the Natural 30 piece Glass Ornament Set. It features these gorgeous ornaments in burnt orange, brown, green and silver. They are so heavy and thick - I haven't tested them, but it feels like they may not break the first time they hit the floor. I specialize in dropping things, so I will let you know how they react once I actually do drop one. I usually break at least two ornaments each year - one when the tree goes up, and another when I take it down. I was super careful with these.

Part of the reason I chose this set was the colors - I love the mid-mod aesthetic, and these shapes and colors are delightfully retro. I was tempted by the "sweet" set in pink and purple, but I prefer to keep my decor more neutral. Those ombres are so good, though! Maybe next year.

I decided to play a little game and incorporate them into my usual decor, and see how long it takes my husband to notice that I've got Christmas ornaments all over the place. It's been 24 hours so far, and nothing.

First up - my apothecary jar, that usually has seashells in it. I emptied it out and put some ornaments in there. So sparkly, and not obviously Christmas.

Next to that, I've got a wooden dough bowl. Sometimes it holds fancy soaps by the bathtub, but most recently it holds my un-paper towels and cloth napkins. Now, you can see it has the largest round ornaments, along with my creepy antique baby doll head. (My son and I play a game of "hide the baby head". It bothers everyone in the house, and makes us laugh.)

Next, two pretty ornaments, top down, in my candlestick holders. Honestly, I was surprised that they survived The Purge. I've used them twice in almost 30 years of marriage. They look so cute on the shelf now, though. (I've got a mini cake plate boosting one, so they look more interesting.)

A glass fishbowl, previously home to my collection of travel rocks now has the smaller round ornaments. I'd say that is the most obvious of the displays.

My favorite ornament is the long clear one with the sparkly brush inside. It has replaced a Moravian Star from an ornament display. Doesn't it look fantastic in front of my Tara Faughnan small study?

Finally, my favorite idea was to stick the long ones upside down onto plant stakes in my orchids. This ensures that when the orchids finally die on me, they will still look good for the several months it will take me to notice their demise. Totally bragging, because I have 2 orchids I have been trying to kill for years, and they both flowered for the second time when we moved to the apartment. I'm still shocked.

A friend suggested I hang a quilt on the wall, then do a bunting with some ornaments over it. It sounds lovely, but requires more energy than I have right now.

King of Christmas is having a big Christmas in July sale soon. Head over to their site and start working on your wish list! I haven't been super excited for Christmas since my Dad died, years and years ago. I have to say, this partnership with King of Christmas has made me a little more enthusiastic about the holidays. Their stuff is expensive, and I've never indulged myself in such holiday fanciness before. It really makes things seem a little more special - they are all so well made.

Things I've got my eye on: (maybe I'll spoil myself this winter.)

Hopefully, me scattering ornaments around off-season won't inspire the same amount of rage I got last year, after putting up my tree in October! Whew. The YouTube folks do not want to see my tree up early.
