Jelly Weave in Quick + Easy Quilts
Happy mail arrived today! I've received my advance copies of the December/January issue of Fons & Porter's Quick + Easy Quilts. You can find my latest baby quilt pattern, Jelly Weave, on page 42! I am always so excited when the projects come back, and then I wait nervously for my copies of the magazine to come, so I can see how the project looks. What a rush.
Jelly Weave was my response to a prompt asking to both use precuts and to do stash busting. I often use precuts - 2 1/2" strip sets are so handy. I can do a bunch with them, but sometimes there are a few stray strips leftover. This project uses 6 leftover strips, plus a yard of background to make a 36" square baby quilt. Fabric was provided by the great people over at Andover Fabrics. It is from Alison Glass's Sunprint 2021 collection.
I know this simple design will come as a bit of a shock, but sometimes even I need to make something easy. For this quilt, I have one little section of piecing squares, and once that is done, it is all straight long seams. I like it so much I event painted a picture of it!
I hope you love this one as much as I do. It is a super quick make, and is lovely, even though it is simple. The hard part for me is going to be finding a baby to give it to.
This project was so little that I even quilted it on my domestic machine, which I almost never do. Right from the start I just wanted a grid of straight lines, mimicking the piecing. Quilting it on my domestic was much, much easier than doing it on my longarm would have been.
You can get a copy of the Quick + Easy Quilts issue containing Jelly Weave from the QuiltingDaily.com website, or at your local bookstore or quilt shop, I hope!
